LUDHIANA: Six new additions incorporated into the e-way bill system were introduced on Friday.
As per the notification issued by the government on the e-way’s official website, these six ‘enhancements’ included checking of duplicate generation of e-way bill, lots supply option, shipping address option and changes in bulk generation tool.
Welcoming the changes, businessmen and taxation professionals said the the system should be simplified further. Harish Dua, president, Knitwear and Apparel Exporters Organisation, said, “Inclusion of options like lots for movement of export/import consignment, shipping address in case of export supply type and dispatching address in case of import supply type will be of great help to the exporters and importers.”
“These changes will prove helpful in easy movement of big consignments in batches through a single invoice and will also save our time and money. Though these changes should have come a bit earlier, the government should compensate for the delay by making the e-way bill system simpler. There are still several flaws in the system,” he added.
Ankur Gupta, CA, said, “One of the major changes to the e-way bill system which has come into effect is checking of duplicate generation of bills based on same invoice number. With this option, chances of fraud and mistakes too will be minimized.”
Sanjay Goyal, a taxation professional, said, “We welcome the steps being taken by the authorities to make the e-way bill system more secure and robust against probable misuse by unscrupulous elements.”
