Businessmen filing GST will get insurance and pension facility

To prevent tax evasion and to attract Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Uttar Pradesh government is considering providing free accident insurance and pension facilities to traders. Indications to this effect were indicated in the meeting of top officials of the Commerce Tax Department held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. CM Yogi asked the officials to expedite the GST and VAT so that the target of Rs 77,640 crore can be met in the current financial year.

In the review meeting with the zonal additional commissioners of the department, he said that the annual target of Rs 77640.10 crore of revenue collection for the financial year 2019-20 should be met. He instructed to review the works of officers posted in the mobile team every 15 days. Reviewing the number of traders registered in GST, the Chief Minister said that it still required registration of large number of traders. He said that there is a need to carry out an awareness campaign about the benefits of GST. For this, the officials of the Merchant Welfare Board and the Commercial Tax Department can discuss among themselves.

He said that accidental insurance of Rs 10 lakh will be made available to the merchants registered in GST, which will greatly benefit them. Also, it will be considered to ensure the system of giving pension to the traders registered under it. He instructed the officials to give the traders complete information about the benefits of GST registration as well as its return filing, so that the traders can easily file their returns.

The Chief Minister said that the officials of the Commercial Tax Department should fully help the traders in the return filing. He also instructed to continuously monitor the return filing. Also, refunds given to traders should also be returned with timeliness. Its process should also be simplified. He said that the revenue from GST plays an important role in the progress and development of the country and the state. He instructed the officials of the Commercial Tax Department that this task should be done with utmost seriousness and that by accelerating this, the revenue target to be collected under it should be achieved at all costs. There should not be unnecessary harassment of traders in GST collection.

The Chief Minister instructed the officials of the Commercial Tax Department to conduct a survey of the annual turnover of traders up to the town level and register such traders whose turnover exceeds the prescribed limit. This will enable large scale merchants to register and increase the revenue under GST. With this, Uttar Pradesh can achieve the target of collection of revenue of one lakh crore rupees under GST in the next financial year.
