Goods and Services Tax. The 37th meeting of the GST Council is scheduled to be held in Goa on 20 September. This is the first GST meeting outside Delhi by Nirmala Sitharaman, finance minister and current chairperson of the GST Council. Earlier, all the meetings of GST Council held outside Delhi have been better in terms of rate rationalization and reasonable decisions.

A senior government official told CNBC-TV18, the meeting in Goa was pending for the past one year. The decision was postponed due to ill health of former chairperson Arun Jaitley. Therefore, the council has decided to hold this meeting in Goa with the new chairperson.

Hopefully, this time the issue of healthcare sector can be raised in the GST Council meeting. Bade Hospitals said that they were incurring a loss of 7-8 per cent due to not getting the benefit of input credit tax.

Apart from this, the council can also discuss the current revenue. This meeting of the GST Council is taking place at a time when the economy is experiencing fear of sluggishness.

It is believed that the auto sector is not expected to get any relief in this meeting of GST Council. The auto sector is constantly reeling under dwindling demand. But there is no relief for them at the moment.
